  1. Anybody know how DVD slideshows are made? Are they MPEG2 movies with a chapter point betwwen each picture or are they made with lots of menus like VCDs were made? When there are transistion effects, I figure that the slideshows are movies.

I started playing with dvdauthor 0.6.8 (http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net/) and am able to make menus for movies but I want to create nested menus of slide shows. I purchased Ulead MovieFactory but it is not as flexible as I would like (no nested menus, limited number of buttons per screen ...) so I'm going to the dark side and using command line tools!

  2. It really depends on the program you are using. Some a seperate chapter for each image with the timing information in the ifo i suppose? I found this out when i made one using sonic mydvd to create a slideshow and then tried to author it using TDA...the pictures flew through but the sound was normal.

MY preferred method is to use a program that creates a standard dvd-compliant mpeg2 file. For this you can use Photodex ProShow Gold. It is a small but powerful application for making good looking slideshows.
