Also be sure your ISP has no problems with you running a server from your computer. Some of them complain when you do that and get too much traffic monthly/daily. Usually I've seen it with cable broadband where the ISPs forbid you to run a server (check your ISP contract for this). You wouldn't want to run a server on a cable modem anyway, not as much upload bandwidth as many DSLs. Most DSL ISPs I've talked to have no problems with subscribers running servers. Some even comp part of your fee if you put an advertisement for them on your site
Another thing you've got to do if you want a domain name is to point the DNS at your IP at home. But just remember your website is only going to have as much uptime as your computer and connection do. If you need something with almost zero downtime you should be looking at paying for a website host. -
Talk to gmatov or PM doggiedaddy. I believe his site is hosted on his computer : www.dvd9to5.com

Nah,don't talk to gmatov, I don't run a website, though I am considering it strictly for family members.
I don't have a name as common as "gshocker" so should be able to get a domain, at least the last time I checked.
I will, however, point you to www.godaddy.com, as about the cheapest domain registrar there is, and I will point you to www.granitecanyon. com as an org that will act as your secondary DNS, and even your Primary DNS at no charge. Why do they do this? As per their website, "Because we can.". They are a bunch of "nerds" who are fighting the high prices the others allfeel they can charge, just because.
If you are old enough to recall, it was a flat 35 bucks a year to register, keep, a Domain. So, godaddy fo one, started registering for, like 9 bucks, descending to about 7 bucks for a 5 yrar commitment.
Competition is good, sometimes, no?

My ISP blocks incoming requests at port 80, so i HAVE TO CHANGE TO A DIFFERENT PORT AND USE A dYNAMIC ip SERVICE SUCH AS DYNDNS OR (oops caps lock) no-ip.com
