I currently use photoshop, premiere and after effects in the adobe line, but I use Ulead DVD Workshop to make the DVD....research on Encore is fairly limited and I was just wanting to know what others thought of it before I go get it and if it is worth me changing.

    Piece of JUNK
    Not BETA TESTED before release
Works very well on specially constucted DELL machines that its certiefied to run on only ....
So If you get a look at the hardware used in these workstations, you could build a comparable unit that would not be subject to the horrible error messages most unsuspecting users have had to tolerate

One thread on their forum makes it clear that AMD chips will not run the ADOBE software properly anymore as they have joined the
MICROSOFT-DELL-INTEL cartel with their endorsement of
    1. XP-ONLY software
    2. Windows only software
    3. Stuff that looks for 8X AGP cards (they hadda sell 8xAGP somehow)

  3. Hi I tried using it to work with svcd and it would not load them .
if patched to correct dvd resolution the program crashed after importing the video file.
had to use maestro in the end..

Wow I didn't think there were conspiracy theorists in the video production world, that's pretty exciting

I run two AMD chips and only had errors the first few stabs at Encore. They come up occasionally now and again but nowhere near as often as other people are saying they are. And it when it comes to functionality with other Adobe apps you're not going to find anything as good as Encore. Download the trial and give it a run on a few projects, just be sure to import any video as an elementary asset as it doesn't like much else. Also don't expect to use mp2 audio as it doesn't like that either. Actually there's a lot it doesn't like that you have to learn to get around, but it was worth it for me since I have all the other apps it works with. May be for you too if you've got Premiere, AE, and Photoshop already. Too bad you didn't get them as a package though, the deal is such that you basically get Encore for free so no big deal if it doesn't work as well as your expectations of it.

The only other author I would use is Maestro, but I personally don't have access to it anymore and the software is rare to find and still expensive. The Ulead products are good entry-level apps, I started off on them. If you want something more advanced check out TMPGEnc's offering or maybe DVD-lab.

BTW Total Training and a couple other firms did test Encore before it wass released. There may not have been extensive cross-hardware testing done but then since when has Adobe tested new releases of software extensively? They know it's going to sell regardless. It's kind of like Windows ME

I love the combo of Adobe 6.5 with Sonic Foundry's DVD ARCHITECT

    or DVD LAB

    maybe Adobe 2.0 will come

I've built several projects in encore now, and love the design of the program, but hate how it dislikes my slightly older hardware, and as I cannot afford to upgrade to the stuff you need to run this app properly,
I'd rather badmouth the thing after the wasted cost!

I currently use DVD Workshop and it is OK, but like someone said it is great for a beginner but I am looking for more of a high end, more funtional, more personalizable program.
Encore seems like a natural choice since photoshop, premiere, and after effect are pretty much top of their individual mountains. But apparently it just seems that way....I won't be buying it.

plus if you really want to use ENCORE effectively
you need PREMIERE PRO for sure

another program that wasn't beta tested...
or was intentionally releasd to sell brand new boxes with compliant intel chipsetts..it works only on these!

Whoa, I run Premiere Pro in my machine and have yet to have it lock up. The only time it has problems is when I use the media encoder but I only used that until I learned to frameserve it out to TMPGEnc. I've logged tons of hours capturing and editing in Premiere 7 and haven't had any troubles doing that. And I don't use Intel chips :P

Encore I can agree with it being pretty buggy. My job would be a bit easier if I didn't have to tiptoe around the landmines built into that program, but I've become so adept at it that I hardly notice it anymore. I just need to set up for my projects differently and there's no time wasted with crashes.

  9. Seems I have downloaded the trail and then bought my copy of Encore on another plane of existence... I do not have - and never had - any problems with Encore. Started it up, Read the manuel, experimented a bit, and all of my projects went on DVD first time. No errors. No hangups. No noise problems.
Whatever problems or bugs people have had with Encore, I have not been able to duplicate. Sure, there are a few functions I would like to see( Mulitple camera angles, burning of double-sided Dual layerd DVD-s on single sided single layerd DVD's, topless blonds teling you in dulcet voice "good boy!")
But seriously, I think it does the job better than DVD Workshop, specially if you have Photoshop under control (for making menu's)

I have Photoshop 6, Premiere 6.5 and after effects 5.5.

I already use Photoshop & After Effects to make motion menus or just photoshop to make still menus.

I'm fairly proficient at all 3...although, I don't think you could learn everything about Photoshop or after effects...no matter how long you work with them.

I'll probably download trials of a few different softwares until I find one I like.

I have a hard time believing Encore is complete trash...but you guys would know better than I would.

If you use Photoshop to make menus then you'll have one more reason to like Encore. The menu integration with Photoshop is wonderful. You just need to learn how to create everything rght in PS as Encore wants it which is mostly about layers sets and naming conventions. You can get some really great menus this way.

The Education version comes for $220 or $450 with Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects 6, a bargain not to be missed for adavnced amateurs, like me, that are serious about video.

Works pretty well for me but is fussy about mpeg-2 format. Integration with Photoshop is great, leaves a lot of flexibility in the creation of your menus. But as I stick with Premiere Pro and Photoshop, I have yet to encounter any issue.

A relief from DVDit LE that came with Premiere 6.5 and was a nightmare. Don't know about the PE version which I read is good.
I also tried DVD Lab and TMPG Authoring software but did not get the flexibility I was lookng for when I was looking for an authoring program 6 months ago. Don't know about the latest releases.
