I have a VCD where the picture quality is quite crap - the contrast is on very high - so I wish to put it through an editor and remove it - then re-encode and burn a new VCD.
The thing is - I don't want to extract the whole file just yet, I wish to extract a bit - test this, then if I am happy with the results - I will copy the whole dat file over.
I need to know a program that will allow me to extract part of the dat and then if I cut/cancel the operation - what ever got extracted to my HD - will play without errors. I basically need something like DVD Decrypter - but able to extract dat off a VCD.
Thanks!

Use MPEGTOOL, simple freeware utility.
You can find it at
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/mpegtool.html
Set it to extract a few minutes in the middle of your movie (1 min = 29.97 x 60 = 1,798 frames) -
aguillon,
thanks man, that MpegTools Programme did exactly what I wanted - managed to easily extract whtever time length from the dat file to the HD very quickly, nice app!
