  1. This is the thing I have backed up over 50 of my movies without a problem but recently I noticed something that got me thinking, that I am doing this all wrong. I have a Panasonic DVD Player that supports DVD-R disc playback so all the movies that I have backed up are working fine. My uncle has this very old DVD player and he just recived a DVD-R backup that work perfectly in his DVD player. My back ups dont work in his DVD player, My playstation2 (Version4), and my PC DVD drive (Samsung 16x).

My burner is a TDK 404N Dual Format.
I use DVDDecripter to Rip and IFOEdit to get rid of extras, then If needed DVDShrink to compress.
The software I use to burn is Intervideo DVDCopy. (This software has virtually no options on how to burn a disc)
The type of blank media I use is RiTek G04 4x media (I hear these are good discs)

My question is how do you burn a DVD-R so that a standalone DVD player WHICH DOES NOT SUPPORT DVD-R DISCS! read the movie.? Please give me advice on what software I should use or any other info you can provide.

    Thank you

*I dont know who or how my uncles back up was made*

  4. I would say that you need new firmware after all. I have had same problems with NEC ND1300A (and I think it is the same burner). The problems disapeared when I changed firmware to 1.08 with bitsetting feature. Now I use dvd+r discs but burning it with dvd rom book type. They play flawlessly and my player is picky one.

I don't believe you have a media problem as the RiTek G04 are EXCELLENT DVD -R's. I am using these DVD's. There maybe two problems here.

    1. Your burn speed on the TDK. Burning at 4x may not play on old standalone DVD players also your PS-2 may only like DVD's created at 1x or 2x. So try burning at 1x or 2x and see what happens.

    2. Your burn software DVDCopy. You might try using ImgTool Classic standalone version .91.1 and DVD Decrypter. This is the method I use.

I am sure one or both of these recommendations will solve your problem.

I dont know why he/she goes thru all those steps to rip and burn a dvd. Quite amazing really, but to each their own. The fewer steps performed , the better ( or at least less of a chance of making things go tango uniform)

I updated my firmware from the TDK website to the most recent (1.08) but I never saw any bitsetting feature. right now there is a new firmware 1.0A and i still dont see any bitsetting feature. probably I dont know how to get to it. could you tell me how to get the bitsetting feature. also how do you burn "DVD ROM book type" discs??
