Have just purchased and installed a new Pioneer 107D dvd burner but I am having problems burning dvd media at 4x Windows xp.

I have tried to burn at 4x with the following results.

Princo 4x fails to burn at 1%
Digimedia 4x fails to burn at 8%
Ritek G04 passed burn but 4x burn took 25mins (far too long for 4x)
[ritek burner buffer fluctuationg up and down all the time)

At the end of all burns whatever software used to burn stops responding and the dvd burner locks its self. Have to restart the computer with either reset or power button.

Media ruined if burn failed. I think I may have a faulty dvd burner drive. What does everybody else think?

    My system:

    CPU: AMD 2600+
    M/B: Gigabyte GA-VT600
    RAM: 1 x 512mb DDR400 (Veritech)
    Seagate 120gb (primary master)
    Seagate 40gb (primary slave)
Pioneer 107D Dvd burner (secondary master) [firmware 1.05]
Pioneer 116 Dvd rom (secondary slave)
tnt 2 agp / sb live / 3com lan card
    windows xp pro.

Make sure you have DMA selected for the drive. Nero infotool 207:http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html is an easy way to check drive settings.

Purchased the Pioneer 107D Over here in Australia.

I think I got a dud dvd burner because I have tried to burn 8 dvd of the above brands and they all failed at various % towards the beginning of the burns. only 1 passed. So I have 7 coasters. 1 ok Dvd ISO.

    Using various burning programs.
Nero, Roxio Cd Creator, Dvd Decrypter ISO mode and Clone DVD.

I'll be returning the drive tomorrow see if I can get refund/replacement.

I had the exact same problem with my DVR-107D. I couldn't burn Ul-Tran, SMARTdisc or Data Bank at 4x, but they all worked at 2x. Please note that I just upgraded from a DVR-106D and all these discs worked perfectly at 4x with the 106D.

For the record I am using Nero 6.3.0.2

I contacted Pioneer Aust and they sent me two Pioneer 4x DVD-R and two Data Bank 4x DVD-R to test. The Pioneer discs worked fine at 4x but the Data Bank failed at 4x... and Pioneer stated those brands have been tested with the DVR-107D before and worked fine.

I ended up sending the drive to Pioneer for them to test, and the first thing they do is start burning expensive media at 8x and tell me the drive is fine! No suprise considering the expensive Pioneer 4x discs they sent me worked fine. They did not attempt to burn one of the Data Bank 4x discs that they sent me which failed.

On the bright side I said I would only return the drive to them for testing if they would issue me an immediate replacement drive on receipt of the faulty one, which they did. I will probably receive it today or tomorrow.

Greg, email me if you want a copy of the email sent between Pioneer and I. Sorry but I won't post it here because it is HUGE and contains too many contact details.
