I'm curious to see what others tend to do: what do you do when you want to backup a huge movie you have in dual-layer (DVD-9) format? Do you:
Cut out extras and unwanted stuff (or highly compress them), then compress the main movie onto one DVD+/-R (DVD-5) with the original menu intact? (This would be like a Full Backup in DVD Shrink)
Forget all the extras and forget the original menu, and just backup the main movie with some compression onto one DVD+/-R?
Forget all the extras and forget the original menu and keep 100% of the quality, and split the main movie among two DVD+/-R discs?
I know some people will reply saying I should do whatever I feel like doing, or that what you should do depends on the particular scenario at hand. But I'm asking anyways to try and get a feel for what others do.
Thanks.

Once I have seen the extras on the original DVD, it unlikely that I want to see them again. I just use the main movie and dump all the rest to go for the best quality. If I really wanted the extras and the quality, I would probably use 2 DVD's. If the DVD was an older movie (Lower quality) or the compression was low (A shorter movie), I would keep the extras and back up everything.

I would usually rip just the movie because I think most extras are crap...but for films like Lord of the ring...menus is amust...I would put it in two dvdr or just compress everything....but that would give me a badquality film tho....
Most of the time...only the actual movie is all i want....... -
It depends on what the shrink results look like on the television. Thank goodness for rewritable DVDs!
Generally, I'm happy with the results obtained by multiple shrinks. -

No I'm not saying that LOTR menus are a must.
I'm saying that if menus are a must on a particular DVD, then how do I keep them? Is my only option to compress the entire DVD in DVD Shrink (for example), or is there a way I can keep the original menu structure and split the main movie over 2 DVDR? -

ive seen people suggest this ,
what about disk one do full backup , compress all extras to pictures, disk 2 full back up compress the movie to pictures. -
What I sometimes do especially with longer movies is Rip it the HD, then use DVD Fab to split the movie into two discs. It will keep all the menus, extra features and the 1st half of the movie on the first disc, while the second disc contains just the 2nd half.
I'm using it alot more now since I find that my "cheap-ass" media likes to skip at the outer edge of the disc, so if I keep the file size a bit smaller for each disc, I won't get any stupid pixel crap near the end of the movie.
