Can anyone please give me some simple tips on how to do the following since Adobe Encore DVD just seems to want to deal with AVI and MPEG files.

I've created a DVD+RW of a program with all six episodes and a couple of trailers, and rather than just copy it onto a blank DVD-R with DVD Decrypter as I've normally do, I'd like to let Encore know what's on the disc so I can
    then create menus to suit

Also, could I use Encore to take such a disc and create a new DVD only picking some of those episodes to be transferred onto a new DVD and making a menu to match, as opposed to the whole lot? This would be handy on discs where I have various things across them but just want to create a new disc from specific programmes from each disc that will contribute.

    Cheers,

    Dom

Rip the DVD with DVD Decrypyer in IFO mode. Check the stream processing box and the demux box.

You will end up with 2 files:
    - a .m2v file, this is the video,
    - a .wav or .ac3 file. This is the audio.

Load this 2 files as asset in DVD encore and you can create whatever menu you need.

I've just tried that to the letter, but it's taken 4.7Gb of data (near enough) and converted that down to only 643Mb of data, including a stream information text file that reads:
    "0x20 - Subtitle / LBA: 350242 / PTS: 00:00:00.340 / Delay: -40ms
    0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / LBA: 350244 / PTS: 00:00:00.302 / Delay: -77ms
    0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 4:3 / LBA: 350241 / PTS: 00:00:00.380 / Delay: 0ms"

a short IFO file (84Kb), a VOB file (64Mb in size), and the M2V file of 594Mb in size which it calls:
    "VTS_01_1 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x576 (PAL) - 4~3.M2V"

and no .wav or .ac3 file.

When I import the M2V file it says:
Could not import (above file name). Video files for this project must have a resolution of 720x576 or 704x576, but surely it's the former of those two already?

Please can you tell me where I'm going wrong?

    Cheers,

    Dom

Actually I've just realised the smaller file was because it only converted one of the episodes of the programme on the DVD+RW. I don't understand why it's refusing to import it into Encore though, or why the .ac3 or .wav files aren't there.

The programs are on seperate VOBs then, you'll have to rip each seperately. Last I checked DVD Decrypter demuxes the audio files into a VOB again for some reason. Just noticed this yesterday.

Rumor has it that Encore will accept the VOBs, so if you set DVD Decrypter to IFO mode and rip each program's VOB seperately (making sure that file splitting is off in the settings for IFO mode) you should be able to drop them into Encore and add menus and transitions.

If all else fails read up on how to rip DVDs down to elementary streams using DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper and import those into Encore. I haven't ripped a DVD file in months (other than the one I tried yesterday).

Just tried it on one of the programmes on the DVD and Encore's still blocking me from importing the M2V file. It has no problems importing the VOB which is the audio, but is giving the same error message with the M2V file, but I'd have thought that was 720x576 already? Am I wrong?

SmartRipper sounds the same kind of thing as DVDShrink from looking at the features on here, BTW.

    TIA,

    Dom

Dvdfever, did you check the setting of DVDDecrypter in the Multiplexing tab? You should put a star in the demux line.

You will end up with a .m2v file and a .ac3 file. You need to correct the ac3 delay with Ac3 delay corrector.

Encore handles the 2 type of files.

Also in Encore, check the settings to make sure you are creating a PAL disk or NTSC as applicable.

Just put a * in the demux line (the setting was "Stream processing") and still the same. Can you tell me please precisely what the other settings should be as there must be something I'm missing.

    Ok from scratch:

    - open DVD Decrypter, select IFO mode,
    - put the disk in your drive and wait until the software selects the right main movie.
    - on the right handside, you should have a box with 2 tabs (inputs and stream processing). Click on the stream processing tab.
    - in the stream processing tab, check the enable stream processing box and the demux to extra file box,
    - in the tool box above, check the settings, the multiplexing tab and put the star in demux,
    - run the software.

Tell me if until nowyou were doing the same thing or if you were doing something else. Good luck.

A quick update. I just tried it again and played back the M2V file in Windows Media Player and the video looked fine, in theory, because I could see the video footage, so I don't know why Adobe Encore is telling me no to the file being a resolution of 720x576 when the M2V file claims that it is?!

Also, even if I do get that sorted, DVD Decrypter adds a partially transparent logo in the top-right of the video footage using this method (which it doesn't do if ripped as a straight ISO file). What the hell's going on with that?!

    TIA,

    Dom

Ah, just checked the M2V file in Windows Media Player and it says it's 768x576 so how do I get Adobe Encore to ignore the difference? TIA, Dom

Finally got chance to try all the above so thought I'd give all the main settings I have for DVD Decrypter (v.3.1.9.0) as it's not doing the job for me.

    General -
minimize to system tray (not ticked)
file system to parse - auto
remove macrovision - ticket (RCE region 1)
    Default destination - generated automatically
Other - all three boxes ticked (display warnings)

    File mode -
On startup select files - all
Stream processing - "Search" (50,000 sectors)
    File splitting - by file
multi angle processing - not ticked
Next 5 boxes - ticked only for removing IFO/BUP RC and RCE protection,
    and Patch M2V timecode

    IFO mode -
Select Main movie PGC - ticked
Enable stream processing - not ticked (made no difference when i did tick it)
    Options:
    File splitting - None
Copy IFO file, Remove RC (and RCE) protection, Patch M2V timecode - ticked
Remove PUOs - not ticked (two boxes)
Create additional files - only Stream Information ticked
Filenames - neither box ticked to include PGC or angle number

    Stream processing -
    Options:
Convert PCM to WAV - ticked
    Direct Stream copy - *
    Demux - *
    Raw - (no star)

After all that, I hope it helps you to determine where I'm going wrong with this. Thanks very much in advance.

  14. Re-encode your m2v files with Tmpeg or any other Mpeg 2 encoder before import into Adobe Encore.

    Hope this will help.

Just had a try with TMPGEnc but it wants 720x576 files and this is 768x576. Also, DVD Decrypter in this mode has stuck a logo on screen in the M2V file, and on one file I've converted the logo is flying about the screen?!

How did that happen and what do I do next? Ta,

Just going back to this thread, I've found TMPGEnc Plus will deal with a 768x576 file whereas the other version didn't.

However, while I get a .m2v file while following all this, I don't get a .ac3 file. It dumps the sound as a .VOB which TMPGEnc Plus doesn't then like. Is there a setting I'm missing to get an .ac3 file which I can then use with the .ac3 corrector?

    Thanks in advance,
