I'm looking for any kind of help for this problem. I have been getting blue screens under winxp, with errors indicating page in a non paged area. Then on a reboot I get ntfs.sys corrupt or missing. I try to do system recovery and in trying to get there I get setupdd.sys error 4. I've removed every piece of hardware except the essential video card cd rom and hard drive. Have checked the hard drive for errors and none found. Here are the specs.

    AMD Athlon 1400mhz
    256 pc2100 ram
    80gb maxtor hard drive
    56x cdrom
    54x32x54 cdrw
    16x dvdrom
    abit kg7 raid mb
    CL SB live value
    Leadtek a250 myvivo ti4600
    firewire card
    10/100 card
    floppy

I think I may have tried the obvious, and still no luck. please help.

    Thanx All.

  2. If you have an XP setup CD-ROM you can boot to that CD then try to do a repair.
If that doesn't work and you have a another computer, copy all your files to the other HD then reformat the corrupt HD. Try this site for some help with XP troubleshooting. www.theeldergeeks.com

I would go with what 808smokey suggests. I don't think you have a corrupted HD so much as your OS is corrupting the info on your HD when writing to it. Another possibility is a problem with your memory modules. Especially if the faults seem random. It's easy enough to substitute them to eliminate this idea.

Last time I had an issue like that it turned out to be bad memory. I'd start there. Maybe either run memtest on it or find a local computer show that will test it for you.

  6. I get blue screens in XP all the time (plus the fact that virtually every programme will crash after about 5 mins) and it isn't bad memory. I put it down to older software / isa / pci cards as everything is sweet with 98 and 2000.

would there be chance that a cdrom can cause these problems. I just put my sytem back together, took one last shot and installed windows from another cd rom and so far no problems.
