Is there a difference and what is the (noticable) difference? I was told by a TV shop the progressive is better, but I was curious what people here think./
Thanks

You are comparing apples to oranges. Progressive means that the frames are not interlaced. Instead of having one frame with even lines and another frame with the odd lines all the lines are presented on one frame. If you have a HDTV that can display a progressive picture then yes it will look better then an interlaced picture.
2:3 pulldown is what is used to make a 24fps movie watchable on a normal TV. For NTSC performing a 2:3 pulldown on a 24fps movie would make it a 30fps movie.
So most of the DVD's you own are progressive movies with 2:3 pulldown.
I hope this makes sense. -
Ugh...
This helps me understand what progrerssive does, but not what 2:3 pulldown does.
I have a 55" mitsubishi big screen HDTV. I have a Panasonic s25 that will do progressive but not 2:3. I am upgrading to another player and I was wondering if I should worry about getting one that does the 2:3. Would I notice any difference if I watched a movie in prgressive mode versus 2:3 mode?

Check the glossary on the left (<---------) for 3:2 pulldown - it will give you a lot more detail about it.
