  1. OK I set the mode to DMA if available but the current transfer mode says PIO only with no options to change it. I've read in here that it should not be on PIO only. How do I change this. I am getting very frustrated with my problem of dropping 35% of my frames through the firewire transfer. I defraged the hard drive with no better results and shut off all the processes with no better results. I've read on here that the on-board sound could cause a problem as well as the on-board firewire port. I bought a new firewire card still with no good results and I can't see how the on-board sound would make any difference at all with firewire transfer. Also, do I need to disable the on-board firewire port after I put the new card in? I didn't do this but I didn't think it would matter either.

I had the same problem with DMA. Uninstall the IDE channel with the problem, then restart windows and let it reinstall- that should take care of the PIO/DMA problem.

  4. OK...I figured it out. A guy here at my work actually figured it out. I'm surprised I din't find this fix on here somewhere. The problem with the drive defaulting to PIO only was because of the jumper on the back of the HD was on cable select and not on Master. I switched it to master and.....bam! Not a single dropped frame for 1.5 hours of tape! Thanks for all your help guys, I would have never figured it out to even look at the PIO thing without this forum. One thing sort of strange though. After switching the jumper my comp. would not boot and I had to power off/on like 10 times and then it started but lost all USB connectivity. This is pretty much a big problem for me since everything I use is on USB (mouse, kbd, scanner, ptr). Good thing I keep a PS2 kbd. on hand just in case!
