  1. Hello folks,

I am currently in the process of converting old VHS home
movies to DVD for storage safety (VHS degrading).

I am capturing with a Leadtek Win2000XP and have a
AMD 1600XP system with 512mb ram and a raedon 9200 pro
    card. (too weak?)

It still takes a while to compress the mpeg with TMPng (3:1 ratio) but it
is OK. However, when I add a noise filter the bloody thing
goes up to 18 hours to encode one hour of video !!! Any tips
on speeding this up or perhaps another program to use ?
I like the final result of the filter but I don't want to encode for
    days.

    Many thanks,

    Weasyl

    Filters really slow things down.

You must have patience, my son.

  4. Thanks, made me laugh but still hasn't quite answered my
question. Is there a better way ? Perhaps virtualdub ? Perhaps
    Flask ? I don't know these things.

The convolution3D filter for AviSynth is a damn good "noise" filter and really helps to clean the image up.

AviSynth is the fastest way to apply filters too.

You might want to invest in CCE BASIC because it is MUCH faster than TMPGEnc Plus and yet yeilds quality that is about the same.
