  1. I am converting several divx file to put on 1 dvd-r disk but i am having problem. I read the bitrate and resolution information from the divx file from gspot and type it into TMPGEnc see screenshot but when i come to author it using TMPCEnc author i get an error about the resolution when i try using dvdpatcher i get GOP error could someone tell me wot i should do.

    On TMPGEnc it is: MPEG-2 496x384 29.97fps CBR 935kbps, Layer-2 48000Hz 192kbps

that read from the divx file, do i need to encode with the standard dvd res because it takes alot longer. Or can i just patch the mpeg2 file?

First, when you put your AVI file into TMPGEnc, select a DVD template, and do not change any rsolution data. Once TMPGEnc has encoded the new DVD MPEG file, then have TDA author/burn this file into a DVD.
    Hello.

    Good advice for a newbie.

Eventually, learn settings on your own. The TMPGEnc default templates suck.

  4. If i select that option only 1 file fit onto a dvd-r it encoded the file as standard dvd res and at 6000kbps when the files is only 935kbps by 496x384.

I have encoded to mpeg2 with the res 496x384 by 935kbps but dont know how to author it to copy to dvd-r.

You can't. DVD files has to be of certain resolutions, most common 720x576/480 (PAL/NTSC).
Bitrates varies, but 6000 kbps is a good start point. I'd say absolutely minimum is 3000 kbps, max is around 9000 kbps.
The resolution/bit rate of your source material is totally beside the point.

  6. I used to wizard to encode to: DVD for NTSC (North America and Japan) (MPEG-2 352x480 29.97fps CBR 2000kbps, Layer-2 48000Hz 384kbps)

There doesnt seem to be any loss of quality I tried authoring a 10mb file and it seem to work this way. I just have to wait for my NEC dvd-rw 8x to arrive on thrusday and ill test if this work on my dvdplayer.

Cool - Yes, 352x480 is a vaid DVD res, and 2000 kbps is OK at that res too. What might be a problem is that not all players handle mp2 audio. AC3 and LPCM are the standard types of audio. LPCM takes an enormous amount of disc space, so AC3 is the way to go.

the best program to convert to AC3?
I'd say ffmpeggui. Dead simple to do a 2 channel AC3 from just about anything as input. Note that some (few) Pioneer players has problems with both ffmpeg and besweet generated AC3 audio.
