  1. Hey Guys, I have a wee problem I hope someone may be able to shine a light on. Im converting DivX and XviD and Avi's to Mpeg using TMPGenc, then TMPGenc Author to create DVD's I manage to get 4 movies on 1 DvD with a menu and quite good quality. Now the problem is when the movies play I get a slight (how can I explain this) like a split second pause every 1 to 2 seconds through out the movie giving the impression its in slow motion (but not that bad) the movies are still watchable and to the untrained eye you may not pick this up but I do and it annoys the crap out of me The original Avi's play without a hitch so Im sure its a problem in the conversion process. Has any one any idea on what would be causing this or suggest another process that will have the same result ??

Sounds like the source and destination frame rates are not the same? If the AVI has NTSC frame rate, do a NTSC DVD, or if it's 25 fps, do a PAL DVD.

  4. You bloody little Beauty Matts you solved the problem I just looked at a movie I converted the original avi was 23.976 and I converted it at 25 fps. I just did a small test changing the framerate to 23.976 and It fixed teh problem I bow at your feet.

You're welcome. I did exactly that mistake for my first VCD's too! Now, my DVD player doesn't like NTSC frame rates at all, so I have to do it the hard way, and do a real frame rate conversion if I stumble on some 23.976 fps material, and that's a little trickier!

  6. Ok test your wits out on this I converted the avi as I said above and the pause is gone now the problem is using TMPGenc DVD Author it says
what do you think do i need to reconvert it again to 25 fps ?

Apply "2/3 Pulldown" or whatever it's called. I'm in PAL land myself, so I'm not that experienced with NTSC stuff. Maybe some NTSC guy/gal could elaborate?

    /Mats
PS! Did a little search on Googletmpgenc pulldown 23.796 29.97) and found this among other things:
There is NO standard for a 23.976 fps dvd file, you can try all the authoring programs that exist, you will not find one. If by any chance you do find one, it will do an automatic 3:2 Pulldown conversion for you. Encoding with TMPGEnc using their FILM templates, well guess what, it automatically runs Pulldown and results in a 29.97 fps flick.

  9. I just did a test on the 3:2 pulldown and it resulted in horizontal lines giving the film a fuzzy type effect, if I dont use the pulldown and just convert strait to 29.fps the ticking appears to speed up like two ticks per second instead of one like on 25 fps just speeds up the process. The ticking appears to go when using the 3:2 pulldown but a definate loss in quality of video. There must be a way of doing this ?

Viss, dont test the pulldown mpg in windows, burn it to a dvdrw and see if plays ok on your dvd player, certain mpg codecs such as mainconcept will screw up mpg playback with pulldown. Also you can try pulldown.exe with gui to apply the pulldown header to the 23.976 mpg files without encoding again.

  13. And where you have put 23.976 fps (internally 29 fps) I dont have that setting in the pull down menu I have unlocked it and I can change it but not to the setting you specified

  15. Viss / Mats,

Poser for you, I was trying to convert vcd onto DVD using Afonic's guide, which is very easy to follow I must say, using TMPGenc, and BeSweet,

When I burned to DVD-R I has lip sync problems ~ do you guys think that it may be related to the above problems.

So annoying trying to watch movie, when lips move, the n they speak !!

No. There's lots of reasons for lack of sync. Start a new thread with all of your conversion details and maybe someone can help.
