While transcoding from DVD to VCD, forty-two gives me this error message:
Sorry...forty-two did not detect AC3 audio in the language you chose, or detected PCM audio only. It cannot transcode to MPEG without it. Please try your DVD in 514 Mode.
I'm using a DVD which was dubbed from VHS, so I'm not sure if that's a problem. Can anyone advise on what 514 mode is or if there are any workarounds? Thanks.

Hello,
probably your DVD only has audio as a PCM track. When you are dubbing from VHS, you only have stereo, and no 5.1 AC3 or DTS (although AC3 can also contain normal stereo). I don't know wich program you are using for dubbing, but probably, you have no alternative.
The problem is that 42 doesn't support PCM audio in the current version. That is what the people of kaisakura told me, when I had the same problem with a DVD.
The 514 mode just isn't an option in 42, kaisakura didn't give me an answer why the program returns this in his error message.
I think that the only way, is using another app. like ffmpegX, or a DVD transcoder like DVD2OneX.
Maybe Forty-TwoDVD-MPPlus can do the job in '925' mode, this is an integration of the DVDRemaster transcoder in 42DVDMP+.
I cannot test this for you for the moment, but I will try it later if it interests you.
I hope this brings some clarity.
