  1. Hi,

I've read a lot of posts before adding this, and there is a lot of fighting/opinions over Memorex. I have a simple question... I just bought 150 Memorex DVD-R's at Best Buy and have been getting about %10 bad burns. The media is made in Taiwan but how can I get more info like if it's CMC or Ricoh's and how do I know what to look or where to look on the label for when I shop in the future.

If this has already been discussed a simple link will be fine.

ALSO I'm very interested in knowing what media might work best for me or where the best price to buy is... knowing these specific configurations...

    USING THIS CONFIG:
    Burner - Pioneer DVR-A06U
    Player - JVC XV-S500BK/XV
Encoding Software - DVD Shrink 3.1.5
    Software - Nero Ultra 6.3.0.0

    Thanks!
    Craig

If you want to shop online, try one of the sample packs from the many vendors (meritline, rima, supermediastore).

Memorex has a bad rap. There are some good, and a whole lotta bad about them. I'd just avoid.

Best Buy usually has good deals on TDK media. $99/100.

Look for sales on TDK (staples right now) Maxell (Office Depot), or Fuji. Most of the other brands use various OEM vendors and is pretty much pot luck just like Memorex.

With an online vendor, you get the actual manufactorer. Ritek is an OEM for Verbatim, TDK. Instead of paying for nice packaging, you get a discount, and an unlabled disc. Same as Taiyo Yuden and Prodisc for Fuji.

To find out the maker of your media, use DVDInfo in the tools section.

  3. this gets me a step in the right direction... I tend to agree with you... Instead of reading 40 pages of "Memorex Rocks/Sucks" stuff I'll just avoid the media for now. I'm off to staples and office max

    Thanks lots!
