Hi, how long does the LEAD-IN and LEAD-OUT process take when you burn a DVD-R(+R) 4x or 8x media?
I'm using NERO 6.3.0.3 + sony dru500ax + p4 1.7G,DVD-R 4x, it's about 00:01:40
to lead-in(out) a disc. And at last it will take about 18 minutes to burn a disc, is it the normal level?

Panasonic LF-D311
Lead In ~5 seconds, Lead Out ~90 seconds.
Pioneer A03
1x Burn Lead In/Out ~55 seconds
2x Burn Lead In/Out ~30 seconds
Pioneer A05
4x Burn Lead In/Out ~30 seconds
Toshiba SD-R5112
4x Burn Lead In/Out ~45 seconds.
All my 4x burns are done in 15 minutes or less. -
then what caused mine is so long? the media? or the recorder is too old?(bought 1 year ago) does it harm to the data on the disc or the recorder?

18 minutes is fine for a full burn @ 4x... some drives are a little faster, some a little slower... on top of that, there are varying amounts of data to be considered as well as the time it takes the drive to spin up to speed, and then back down.
No offense, but I think you are being a little paranoid.
I have a MicroAdvantage 4x drive, takes about a minute, sometimes two for the leadin/leadout. (Rebadged BTC1004). -
i came here to this room because my lead out is taking 6 or 7 minutes and it's still not done... useing nero 6.3.0.3 ... it's stuck on UDF Achor Volume Descripters
I know one of the games has over 8 thousand files ... maybe that is what is taking the time...
I just upgraded my Nero ... and I can't remember it taking this long in the past!
useing pioneer a06.
update 14 minutes and still waiting!
since the first poster is useing the same program and complaining of same problem ... it could be this version of NERO!
Update 25 minutes stuck on leadout!
You get the point! -

I use Primo DVD, DVD Decrypter, and/or Maestro Premaster Tools. My lead in/out times were from DVD Decrypter. Don't know if Maestro and Primo burn at exactly the same speed, but I know all 4x burns are done in 15minutes or less. 2x takes ~27 and 1x takes ~58.
This is all with DVD-R media, is DVD+R/RW media perhaps different?
Also, 18-20 is about on par for a 2.4x burn. -
luckly i used to burn a disc with 10000+ files (almost .html .jpg and other web files),it's about 2:30 to lead-in(out). not than long, 25 mins ??!!
