With my brothers help (coadman), and others on this site I now have XP Pro installed on my computer in a dual boot dual boot system along with Win98SE. Everything went pretty smooth as far as installing my printer, scanner, etc. and most programs I have on my 98 drive also worked fine when I installed them. But, I did end up with some issues XP is apparently not accepting, and I can't figure out:

    1. I Have No Volume Control. When you go to "Sounds & Devices" and click on "Volume" tab, it says no Audio Device. Also since no audio device all controls are faded. After installing XP we noticed in "Device Manager" that there was a Yellow question mark by "Multimedia Audio Controller" but we couldn't figure out what it was referring to. We did update drivers, but it found nothing. Could this be my Audio card that XP is not accepting? If so, does that mean I have to buy a new one?

    2. I Can't Import My Address Book From 98 Drive. It was suggested I copy Wab file from 98 and put on a floppy disc then try to import within XP's Outlook Express. When I tried that nothing happened, the file doesn't show up when I try to import (and it's definitely on floppy), any ideas?
    Thanks!

You need to install the drivers for your sound card.

Just cut and paste them from the 98 partition to the XP partition

Well how do you know what kind of sound card you have, I don't think XP is recognizing it? I looked inside computer but cannot read anything on the sound card.

I guess I don't know how to cut and paste from entirely separate harddrives.

  4. I'm guessing you did not 'build' the system yourself.. rather, you bought it already assembled, yes? Check your original system's manual or specs.. or go to website from where you bought it and check which soundcard came installed with your system..just input your make/model # into search or whatever. You can call customer support, as well..

I had it built a couple of years ago from a computer store. I basically picked some of the components, and they put in some things on their own. I guess I can call Monday but I have a feeling they won't know, it's probably whatever they got a good deal on at the time.
