  1. Hello

I have a cendyne/pioneer dvr 105 with firmware 1.33 and the lastest version of Nero 5.5.10.54

The dvd burner works flawlessly with princo, TDK, Fuji, Panasonic and Memorex 4x [silver tops].

I recently acquired a cd printer and wanted to produce inkjet printed dvds for a project. I ordered 100 ridata/ritek G04 discs -they came wrapped as two 50 packs with the red ridata labeling on the wrap.

From the first 50 pack I was able to burn 15 problem free discs at 1x. The media code identifies the discs as Ritek G04-- the inside ring has the following code H14L1933085017007.

When burned at 4x Nero indicates that the burn was successful and the discs do not play fully and the recorded burn surface looks blurry and undefined. When I burn from TMPGenc DVD Author's burn engine the same results--a successful burn is indicated but the recorded disc surface looks blurry

The same results happen on anothe computer I have with the Pioneer dvr105 drive with firmware version 1.0. On this computer, using dvd decryptor and dvd shrink--the disc indicates a successful completion but the disc does not play completey to the end and the burned surface looks smeary and blurry.

I picked up, locally, some memorex printable discs that display the same id code as the memorex silver topped discs that work flawlessly in each machine at 4x.

The Memorex printable discs burn at 4x--Nero and shrink state successful completion and the disc partially plays and stops. The surface does not look blurry or smeary--it looks as if it has not been written on; howerver upon inserting the discs in the Nero CD speed-- the disc comes up as being recorded at 4x and containing 3.7G[the correct file size].

I know many are not fond of Memorex but I am confused as to the problems associated with both the Ritek G04 discs and the Memorx. Especially puzzeling because the Memorex silver discs I have burn flawlessly and the printable with the same media code do not.

Ritek seems to have a loyal following--am I doing something wrong? The Riteks were purchased at the Supermediastore.

Any help or guesses are welcome and appreciated.

  2. That is strange...

So you are printing before you burn? And the disk comes out good our of the printer? But when you burn it..the printable top doesn't look good anymore?

If that is what you mean, what kind of Cd printer do you have? what kind of settings are you using when printing? (how much ink is being laid down) I just recently bought 100 Memorex +R Printable tops from J&R.com and also 100 White printable Ritek CD-r's from Meritline. I'm not quite sure if the CD-R's use the same printable top as the DVD-R's but both worked very well. I did notice that the Ritek didn't seem to hold as much ink as the memorex, but then again,.these are CD-r's and they may be entirely different than the DVD-R's tops.

The reason I say this is maybe it is getting blurry because the ink isn't dry..and burning it tends to mess up the print (just an idea though). I couldn't imagine any other reason why the print quality decreases after you burn the DVD..especially if the ink is dry to the touch. I honestly hear most people recommend the Memorex and Ritek's for printing. That is the main reason I jumped on board with Memorex printables.

About it not giving you a successfull burn.. have you tried burning the DVD before you print it? Maybe throw the DVD in the player with a blank top and see if it plays. I still wouldn't see how it could make a difference.

I think he means that the recrorded surface appears blurry and smeared not the printed surface
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

  4. hi

Thanks for the replies--The printed side is fine. It is the recorded side that has a blurry or smeary burn ring. I recorded/burned the discs before printing.

On Amazon.com, someone who owns a Pioner DVR 106 had a similiar problem with the Memorex media.

I called Memorex today, very polite technical support department but not very helpful--"Memorex produces discs that meet the dvd standard--we do not garuantee drive compatability."

I also called Supermediastore.com about the Ritek G04 discs. once again very polite and I will be sending them back for a refund.

Pioneer recommended that I try Prodisc printables or Taiyo Yuden, the latter is a bit expensive at about $2 a printable disc.

As I stated before, the computer successfully burns silver topped Memorex 4x discs which have the same id code. I am currently burning silver topped TDK Ritek G04s without a problem.

    Thanks for the responses

The only bad Ritek burns I have ever had were those damned white topped ones....my "see thru" ones....the ones you folks call silver topped(?)....not a single bad burn.

  6. very wild..

sorry for my ignorance on realizing you were talkign about a blurry recorded surface. I havenever heard of this before..however do you think this has to do with drive compatability?

  7. I also have the cendyne/pioneer 105 with the same firmware update. I have always used the Ritek inkjet printable G04s and never had a problem. The only difference is that I use RecordNow Max to burn. But I have also used DVDDecrypter to burn some disks. Again no problems.

  8. About the only thing left to consider is drive compatability.

Pioneer does not have Memorex listed on their approved media list.

    The approved list consisted of:
    Taiyo Yuden
    PVC-R [never heard of this]
    TDK
    Prodisc

Ritek appeared under a heading of good but not flawless.

I am still surprised because this drive burned Princos without a problem.
