I've been experimenting with getting VCD's on DVD's as MPEG-1 files. I've noticed that there seems to be a little degradation in picture. What is subtle pixelization on the VCD when I play it in the DVD player seems to turn into more noticable blotchiness on the DVD.
I know in theory, there shouldn't be a difference. I'm using TDA right now. I remember seeing a post about something like this in my wanderings, but can't seem to find it again.
I'm doing it very straight-forward, mux'ing out the sound to AC3, then putting it on a +RW which has been cleaned with a full erase. I've experimented doing a full erase on the same peice of media and burning out a DVD section, and it's fine.. more than fine.
Let me add that using the same source file, I burn out as a VCD onto a CD-R and burn to DVD as MPEG-1 in this comparison.
TIA for any suggestions.
