After doing some encoding exercises with ffmpeg's MSMPEG4v2 (.avi), found that the resulting file won't open on OSX Windows Media Player, will open without audio on QuickTime Player, and is doing fine on VLC.

I have to present some AVIs on a Windows XP based PC with a skinny memory for video (around 8 Mb), and my question is: will XPs Windows Media Player be able to open and reproduce fine this videos? (because it has to!) The key issue is to present a video that won't consume too much of the processor and still looks fine on a TV display (I'm encoding @ VCD size, which handles OK when doubled sized)... and of course, can run in Windows Media Player...

    Thanx for any help.

  2. Try with the VCD preset, make sure the option "Keep elementary streams is checked". Uncheck both option "Author as VCD" and "Split in AUTO chunks". The resulting mpg file will play fine on both platform.
