I'm new at VCD's and am in the market for my 1st DVD player. I want to do it right but what are DVDR and DVD RW for support media
And mini DVD, XVCD, XSVCD for support format.
This way I can narrow it down I want to get everything I might use in the future too. If there is a place on VCDhelp.com that lists these I would appreciate that because I can't find any.
Thanks
Lisa

XVCD and XSVCD are not formats. XVCD stands for Extended VCD, meaning non-compliant.
MiniDVD is simply a DVD format on CD. The reason most players don't handle MiniDVD is because you need like 8x CD read to equal the transfer rate of 1x DVD.
Since MiniDVD's are a serious bitch to make, only hold ten to fifteen minutes of video, and are supported by very few players, they're not something you need to worry about.
Most players these days handle VCD.
Some handle SVCD, which should be very important. SVCD seriously is the quality of DVD. Your eye isn't as discerning as you may think.
If you need a good DVD player cheap, I recommend that daewoo thing they sell at Sam's Club. 3000N or NG or something like that. It will play almost anything(including MiniDVD and MP3 cds) and it has a region-free hack. I'm delighted with mine. They're a little less than a hundred bucks and have every whiz-bang feature you could need, except for optical outs.
