  1. Hey, I visited India and bought numerous VCD's - they seem to be more popular than DVD's there - unaware of the fact that they are PAL while we (North America) are NTSC. I have a DVD player that claims to play both signal types but only have an NTSC television. Is there any way that I can watch these on my TV without purchasing a new DVD player? What can I do?

  4. Hi adamalmighty,

    1) You can play these VCDs/DVDs - PAL system on your PC (Software like PowerDVD...) Output from PC can be redirected to your regular TV providing your graphic card has video-out features. Most graphic cards now have this option.
    2) In my opinion I would buy another multi-system DVD player. Surprisingly they are cheap. Donot buy brand-names players like Pioneer, Panasonic...I bought a Daytek P-871 over Xmas time at Future shop for CAN $59.00. Another player I have is Sungale DVD-8208 I bought from Ebay for US $79.00. Apex player is another brand I recommend. Make sure it is called multi-system (meaning playing both PAL-NTSC) player. The conversion is built-in. Their output (Composite/S-Video/Components) can be connected directly to NTSC TVs. Another bonus is they can play some VCD made in SouhEast Asia which canNOT be read (recognized) by Windows (your PC). Otherwise you have to find some softwares to play them (See some info on digital-digest.com)

    Cheers,
    vuvan
