These are stills from a video that I trying to transfer to my HDD via a firewire card. I am using a Canon 500i as a pass thorough and as my VCR does not have a S-VIDEO outlet I have an adapter from the camera that fits in the AVI outlets on the VCR. Can anyone with a similar set up help to explain the poor quality? The problem must lie in the VCR and/or cable as the video is poor in the camera screen. I may need a signal booster (if one is available) This is NOT a macrovision problem.

Are your devices all PAL, and set properly.
I would almost believe that this is MV related also, but the looks of your
recorded tapes, you have the stations logo, so MV would be ruled out of
this equiation
I would figure, that you are using a Scart connector. So, perhaps something
is bad in the wireing/connection.
Else, its possible that you got a defective 500i conector or something w/in
your 500i circutry.
These are mostly guess, but you could try a regular capture card and see
if you still suffer the issues above.
If the problems go away, then is it safe to assume it's your 500i or connections,
else it's your vcr otherwise.

My problem is solved. It turned out I was using the wrong adapter. It's perfect now.
