  1. think I have decided to go with the e80, based on what I have read here, just for the harddrive. I know you think I'm crazy, but am taking back the tivo unit just purchased at cc, I just can't work up to having it recording all the time (running), and if in standby mode, shuts off my dtv, just don't watch tv that way or that much, just want to record when wife and I do now (on vhs-but now have a wide screen tube/tv) if we see something coming up that we know we will not be home to watch. Question is, if the e85 coming out has a weeks worth tv guide put into it, won't it be just like a tivo unit, having to have a phone line to get the week worth of guide? Maybe I don't understand this. Any opinion on this or my choice greatly appreciated, new to a lot of this I admit.

    Thanks Bob

The E85 uses GuidePlus, which is downloaded over the air, so no phone line is necessary. However, the E85 will not give you TiVo features like Season Pass™, WishList™ and Search by Title. You may not think you don't need these features, but trust me, once you have TiVo (or ReplayTV) you will never go back to watching live TV every again.

  5. Hmm so panasonic has finally wised up and installed guideplus in this upcoming model huh? Well it's about freaking time! Now all that's left for them to do is convert to dvd+rw instead of dvd ram and you have the perfect dvd recorder.

  6. I would say that with model that have HD, DVD-RAM is not important at all. You just record to HD, do the editing and burn to DVD-R.

  7. Bob, I can't find the link I had to some info on the E-85 and other new models coming out, but I think I recall a May release date. Who knows how much $$ or how long after that before you can actually purchase one. Depends how patient you are I guess, I couldn't wait

  8. All I know for sure is that the suggested pricing will be identical to current pricing on current models. I'de expect the e80's price to drop $100 to clear them out. Might be some deals there if you dont mind manually inputting record info

manually inputting recording info is the reason why I never end up recording anything thru the timer even though I may really want to see a particular program. I suspect it's the same with most ppl.

  11. OMG! It is about time!!

I just posted a message that this is a major issue, could panny have fixed it in less than 2 minutes?? Actually been stating it for 2 years I think...

But it says "HS", is that high-speed? Anyone know what that is about yet?

  13. If this is the same model I saw at CES (I thnk it is), it has TV guide on screen, not Guideplus. The salesman at the show said it was only compatable with cable, not over the air or satelite. Looked nice though.
