  1. Hello,
I think I have sort of an odd question. I would like to add a black screen delay to the front of a video file, in order to subtitle a message before the video starts. That way, the message doesn't run into the video itself.

This isn't a question about joining files (I can do that) or subtitling (I can do that), but would there be any suggestion on how to make a black screen to delay the start of a movie? Do I need to somehow make a video of just a black screen then join the two? I'm not really sure how to go about this. Thanks in advance....

Most video editing programs allow you to import a .bmp or .jpg photo file, so simply create a black photo file in the size you require, import this into your video editor along with the video file you wish to attach it to, then have the video editor stretch out the blank for as long as you want then render the whole thing...the black or blank photo method works good for adding titles also. Just make a black or red, etc photo, add titles using the photo software then render all of photos in your video editor.

tmpgenc is great for this ..

load any size black bmp into tmpgenc (just 1 required)

load any audio track you want into tmpgenc

select source range and make the lenth as long as you need

    render to dvd specs

Nice 'n' easy until the last bit - When I select "Source Range" in TMPGEnc I can't see where I can set the length. And there's no way of deciding where to set the start and end by the audio (i.e. a subsection of the full audio clip).

    Or am I misunderstanding something?

just make the audio clip the lenth you need if you have any problem setting in source range .. when you render - tmpgenc will render black the lenth of the audio clip

    Hi BJ_M,

As I suspected, but thought I'd check - just in case.

    Cheers.

I don't see why not, just select MPEG-1 instead to get a still background (single colour or picture) with your chosen audio.
