I just feel like this is a really dumb question, and I swear I've tried to find the answer for a few days now. I must just not be phrasing it correctly, because I'm sure someone has asked about this before somewhere.
I would like to know if backups for games (programs) can be burned to a DVDR, or do they need to be on a CDR by themself? I saw a response that you cannot burn more than one PS2 game onto a DVDR, but I don't know if that is unique to those types of games. I am particularly interested in knowing if I can backup 6 or 7 of my kids' game cds onto a DVDR and have it work. These are games that require the disk to be in the drive while you play. (I know there are ways around that, virtual drives, other fixes, etc.) But, if one of my kids has 6 Barbie CD-ROM games, do they still need to be backed up seperately onto individual CDRs, or could I actually stick them all on a DVDR (and have them run)?
I go through a ton of CDRs (I have 5 kids, young, and not exactly careful with disks) CDRs are cheap, so it isn't a big deal, but I have 2 DVD burners and a DVDR standalone player that seem awful lonely because I just don't have much use to backup my personal files that much, and I may burn 15 to 20 movies a year total.
By the way, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this site. I am certain I would never have figured out how to make my movies play right side up, with sound, etc.![]()

Hmmm, good question. you could put images of all the games you want to back up on the DVD's and use a virtual cd-rom to point to the image you want to use. That would probably give too much performance lag for hardcore gamers, but would do well for barbie games.
I think it would be much easier to just use virtual drives with the images on your harddrive though. -
Thanks for your answer.
I've been using virtual drives for the games they play most (old Atari games like Centipede, Tempest, etc. -- amazing how classic those are.) I've got 200GB in their machine now (120 & 80), so maybe I will just add another drive or swap the 80 for another 120. It would be fine if it were all Barbie and Atari, but 4 of the kids are boys and they are more into Mortal Kombat, GTA, etc.
So the bottom line is just that if a game is designed to be run with the CD in the player, I am stuck with one game per CDR and I can't add several together on a DVDR -- right? (I figured that was the case, but you can't blame a Mom for trying.)
Again, thanks for answering. -
You could certainly burn them each in their own folder but games that require the CD often check amongst other things a) the label of the CD and b) all the paths to certain files would be up the creek because of adding the extra directories. I don't like your chances but it could work. Try it.
If in doubt, Google it.
