  1. I just bought an LG GSA-4081b and every program I use to burn only gives me the x2 option. This happens even without a disc loaded using drive/recorder info so I don't think it's just the media.

    I'm running win98SE with an Gigabyte 7VAXP, Athlon 2100XP and 1GB ram.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. sounds like the same problem as with the 4040b.

make sure you're updated to the newest firmware.

but beware.. in the firmware is built in what discs are allowed to burn at what speed. the 4040b is only a 4x drive.. but only a certain amount of discs are authorized to burn at 4x. so alot of people can't burn 4x on cheap media.

when you use an LG drive you have to buy good media.. specific media.

    try Ritek disks.

also remember the 4081 only burns 8x on dvd+r's.. so you gotta find some ritek 8x disks maybe

  3. I'll get some 8x discs and let you know. The discs I've been using have been the cheaper ones.
