  1. Hi All,

We have a AVI file of a presentation taken with a camcorder. The focus in on the speaker with the Power point in the background. We would like to insert video frames of the actual PowerPoint into the file so the viewer can get a close up. The key is to keep the audio time line untouched so the lecture is smooth.

What video editing software could accomplish this task? This is our first attempt at video editing so we are a little green.

    Thanks

  2. anything using audio and video tracks would be easiest. you could just drop the powerpoint frames over the video at the points you want, and leave the audio track untouched.

My fave is Adobe Premiere, but you could probably use anything (something cheaper and simpler). What you want to do is pretty basic.

  3. We have Ulead DVD Movvie Factory 2. I know that is more of an authoring package but is what came with the capture card and it did not work. Would something like Pinnacle Studio 8 or Ulead VideoStudio 7 get the job done?

How big of a learning curve is Adobe Premiere Pro?

    Thanks Bob

  4. You can do it in Virtual Dub. You can use the logo filter to insert frames and give it a frame range. This is not the built-in logo filter, but the external one found on Donald Gaft's website. Set the size of the "logo" (actually your new frame) to the same size as the video frame, and the position to 0,0. I think the logo filter also allows you to fade the image in and out slowly across several frames.

If you are paranoid about keeping the audio un-altered, first save the audio as a separate wav file. Then select under the audio menu "use wav file".

  5. Hi All,

I dowloaded the trial version of Ulead VideoStudio 7 and I was able to do what I wanted via the overlay line. I tried to find a trial version of Pinnacle Studio 8 but did not see one on thier web site.

Curious since I am new to this, Is overlay how I would go about doing this work? It seems there was no way to directly edit the video portion of the story board. I could delete segement but not edit the individeual frames.

    thank you

Absolutely. The frame couter is on the preview screen. Using the Storyboard function, grab the video from the library. Mark the in and out points of the first segment, and note where they are using the frame/time counter.

Grab the video from the library again, and drop it next to the first one. Click on the time/frame counter and type in the Mark in point. Select Mark in. Select the Mark out point. Select mark out. Repeat until all your segments are on the Storyboard. delete the transitions between the clips, and save.
    Hello.

    Just checked back.

I've never used VideoStudio 7 so I can't really comment, but it sounds kind of tedious to me. If you're still interested in Adobe I can tell you that you can do the simple cuts and basic transitions (wipes, fades, etc) with basic drag and drop.

And then the more complicated stuff is still there if you ever want to learn. And actually I've done an incredible amount using only maybe 20% of the tools and effects.

  8. Course, I just checked the tools section and it lists a price of $700, so, maybe nevermind.
