Are all firewire, ieee 1394, and i.link cables compatible with all firewire, ieee 1394, and i.link cards?
I want to connect a digital camcorder to my PC through a firewire cable, but my PC doesn't have a firewire input port. To make sure that I buy the right cable & the right card, I wanted to ask if these are all compatible with each other? Thank You!

I guess I just don't speak the right language yet. Where does the firewire input port come from? Is it part of the card? I've obviously never taken my computer apart & I just don't understand how I get a firewire input port in my computer, so I can connect the cable. Thank You! -
You buy a fire wire card. The card plugs into your PCI slot, and has built in ports.
