  1. Is there any software or any other means by which I can determine the Processor speed, not the frequency at which it is presently running cos that can be incorrect due to wrong BIOS setting, but the actual rated processor speed.
I have a feeling that my processor is running at lower freq cos the BIOS version is not proper, and I donot want to take chances with BIOS unless I am sure.

I have Intel P4 processor with D865 GLC chipset. OS are win 98, win 2k and XP (i use XP the most). In win 98 under the System Properties it shows 2 CPU speeds ie 1.6 GHz and 2.4 GHz, in XP and 2k it does not display processor speed.

I tried installing the updated BIOS but I was not able to do so, Is there any specific proceedure to install BIOS update. Intel site does not make it very clear

    Please Help

  2. I think this will report truthfully.... I'm not sure if this is right though.

Start --> Control Panels (classic view) --> System --> Hardware tab --> Device Manager button --> Processors

You can right click it and ask for properties, but this won't tell you too much more.

    Hope this helps,

  4. CPU-z or WCPU.. however you have bad problems if you are trying to flash your Bios without even knowing your cpu speed?? On boot up you can press F8 or F2 to go into the Bios this will show your Cpu speed.

  5. I have seen the CPU speed in bios, it shows 1.6 GHz, but again is it the frequency at which the processor is running at present or the rated processor speed ?
Is there any way by which i can judge the type of Processor by reading the stuff physically written on the processor (on the side opposite to the pins, after removing the fan assembly),i have noted down the entire string.
Actully this processor was gifted to me by a friend and there was no box or anything with it, just bare processor and he told me that its speed should be greater than 2 GHz.
