How can I find out, exactly, how long a video is, down to the second, so that I can change the length of audio to make it sync better
I've got to fix a complicated asynch... it progresses as the movie moves along.

Vdub.. file>info. If it's an mpeg2 you'll need to frameserve to vdub with avisynth

Open the AVI. file with either Windows Media Player or The Playa from DIVX4 full installer. When the file is playing you can see the playing time and the total time of the whole movie. If it says 1:32:00 it means it's a 92 minute movie. 92 min.x60 seconds = 5520 seconds total length of the movie in seconds. To split the film into 2cds just divide it by 2s = you'll get the exact split product.
For more info about editing/cutting, go to VCDhelp.com edtting/cutting section. You'll find out more.
Cheer up, life's too short!! -
Wrong. Windows Media Player and the Playa are both Directshow players, and neither of them gives you an accurate length. Hell, sometimes they don't even get the number of MINUTES right.
I'll have to try v-dub. Hadn't thought of that.
