Instead of using a DVD-Video burning mode, can't I just copy an unencrypted video_ts and audio_ts folders as data files on a DVD? Will it play? If not, why?

  2. It will *if* you write the DVD in the proper format (UDF 1.02).

Easiest is to use ImgTools Classic to create an ISO file, then burn the ISO file using your DVD writing software (create disc from ISO file).

I'm using ImgTool now, but I thought just copying the video_ts folder as a datafile to DVD would be easier and save time.

  4. Some DVD recording programs will do it properly... if you find the right switches to set the proper version of UDF.

Roxio 6 doesn't do it right, so I have to use ImgTools to create an ISO for the burn. (/shrug, gives me a chance to add PAR2 data to the VIDEO_TS folder prior to burning)

Instead of using CD-Audio mode, can't I just copy the MP3s as data files on a CDR ? Will it play in my non-MP3 playing home stereo ?

    Cannon,
Burn the folders. Try it in your own dvd player. Some may play it, a lot of others will struggle. If it works for you, use it. The DVD-Video burning mode was created to make things simple - stop complicating a very easy task.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  6. Roxio 6 DOES work for me using the drag and burn method. But it could be more my particular standalone DVD player accepting that method, as others suggest here. Try with a DVD-RW first.

Roxio 6 doesn't do it right
as the gent above me stated, it does work. Using Data mode on Roxio 6 is exactly how I burn all of mine, and they play on xbox/6 year old DVD player just fine.

I did it using Sonic Record Now...but it takes substantially longer....as in 90 minutes. Worked fine for me without adjusting any settings.

  9. Use Nero 5.5.10.45--and any higher version of Nero should work--and make a DVD-ROM with UDF/ISO9660 filesystems together or just UDF. I set the UDF to version 1.02. I add the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folders to the Nero compilation window and burn the DVD. The disc plays fine in my computer and in my Apex DVD player.

I think ImgTools does very much the same...

Have you had success with Nero with this method?

5.5.10.35 works like a champ too. That's how I burn ALL my DVDs...drag & drop, UDF 1.02....couldn't ask for anything easier or more reliable...

  11. Depending on your DVD readers and players, you may want to avoid using Joliet extensions and ISO Level 2 on your ISO/UDF movie disc. For simplicity, stick to ISO/UDF with ISO Level 1 and no Joliet (or only use UDF without ISO).
