I cant seem to get DVDINFO to show the media code. When I try to click on the option to show the complete code i get an error saying " your drive does not support the commands required to read MID codes on blank +R/RW media" Its a dvd-r in the drive and it is home movie which works perfectly in all stand alones. I have a Matashita drive which is strickly a dvd-r drive, so why am i getting the error??? Can anybody help me out???

Well after several attempts, it appears my drive is a cheap a$$ drive that wont display the media code. So my question is, is there any other way to get the media code? I read on another post that dvd decrypter can give you the media code. I am mainly concerned about getting the actual manufacturer so I know if it is good or bad. Can dvd decrypter do this, and if so how do I do this?

Have you burned the disc your trying to read? I have a TDK 420N 4x +R burner and I have to burn before I can get DVDinfo to read the manufacture code. Some burners are like that. I freaked out the first time I tried reading blank media. I thought I'd boughten crap blanks. Turned out there were ok after I learned the burn first trick.

It just flat out wont read these codes. I would give alcohol a shot, but I hate to keep loading useless programs on my system if it is the burners fault anyway. I kinda got the feeling different programs wont make any difference. But I read a different thread that some guy said “ a person could always use dvd decrypter to read the media code :P ”
I dont know if he was joking or serious. I have dvd decrypter and don't see any options anywhere for this, unless i have an outdated version. But boy, I sure wish i could get it to work somehow so I can see what media I have is good or not. I know I cant be the only poor sucker in the world that has this drive. Any other ideas, or am I just S.O.L ?? -
