dvd.box.sk made a big test and intervideo won it before all the common progs like dvd shrink and nero recode
http://www.dvd.box.sk/articles8.php
i just get the feeling that this is a scam paid by intervideo, because when i compare intervideos pictures and the original ones its exactly the same, but between the other softwares it was a big difference
can i get some comments from you guys???

Thanx for the info.
I just backed up Terminator 2 S.E.(7,88 GB, German/PAL) using InterVideo DVD Copy v. 1.2 and first negative thing i noticed is the filesize of the VIDEO_TS folder - 4,43 GB....so i wasn't able to burn it...which is a good thing since it was very very low quality. It produced some ugly artefacts even in still scenes...i don't want to mention fast ones.
Here is a screenshot taken from the scene where T-1000 is ariving at Dyson's house.
I'm going to back up Matrix tomorow just out of curiosity...but after seeing what this program did to T2 i'm not very optimistic.
Sorry for my bad english -
Probably because most of us don't use it?
T2 SE is a Biatch to backup, it's long and quite dynamic (fast, slow, dark scenes, explosions). I only see artifacts if I watch the backup on my PC (and 21" monitor). This is one movie I'd probably split in 2 if I had a nice big Plasma screen, or watch the original (first choice). To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
I use IC8 and looking at their tests IC7 did really good. The only negative was the time it takes...I have plenty of time

my point with this post is to figure out if this test is a fake or not....look at intevideos photos and the original ones...they are exactly the same, but if you compare the original with the other softwares photos there is a big difference....
and if this isnt a fake then the conclusion must be that intervideo has an superior re-encoding technique that beats all other software on the market that is in this category -
one thing about the test is that they are backing up the entire disk. It does look like intervideo does do a good job, at least as far as i can tell from the photo's provided, but realistically, how often do you back up the entire disk? the only times i'll do this is when the entire disk is dvd-5, or the compression required is minimal.
If you're doing movie only backups thenit makes sense to use programs like dvdshrink, because it's free, has very good functionality, encodes quickly and easy to use. -
Compressing it at 57% ... of course it is going to look worse off. -
Hi, I'm back with a full backup of Matrix(PAL). This time the filesize of the VIDEO_TS folder was just right (4,29 GB) but the overall quality was...hmmm...not very "faithful to the original" as stated in the test by www.dvd.box.sk.
I realy don't have the time to make backups with all the other transcoding programs so i can compare the results, but i can't take this test seriously because i think they intentionaly picked up some screenshots where InterVideo DVDCopy performed really good...
Here is a shot of the same frame like in dvd.box.sk's test which looks almost identical to the original...
But if we move to the next frame...
What a mess! -
The whole problem with this kind of test is that you are comparing still frames. Does it really matter what an individual still frame looks like? I think you can only truly compare encodes with the video playing, after all, thats how it is intended to be seen. Maybe making judgements and showing why you made those judgements is more difficult with a video than a still but by comparing still frames you are performing an artificial comparison.
Just My opinion. -
Well, Bugster...in my opinion, all of the currently available transcoders produce "watchable" results, many times not very different from each other...but if you want to make a detailed comparison, then you must compair frame by frame.
Anyway, back to the topic. I just made a backup of Matrix with DVDShrink 3.1, compaired it with Intervideo's copy and i must say that Intervideo's program is superior to DVDShrink. However, it's not that good like shown in that test by dvd.box.sk. As i already said, for some reason they picked up the best looking frames for the test which are very close to the original and that's definitely not a case with the rest of the movie.
Again, sorry for my bad english but i think you understood the point.
