Interesting story on the news here in Australia yesterday: Philips (Australia) announced yesterday that they've now ceased production of VCR's. (They're actually manufactured in China). You would assume this is a world-wide move by Philips. They're focusing their marketing entirely on DVD Recordable. One gets the feeling they're going in for a head-to-head battle with Panasonic for a bigger slice of the DVD Recorder market.

This can oly be good news for Aussie consumers. We should see prices drop by Christmas time. And about time! Australian consumers currently pay around 45% more than U.S. consumers for the same DVD Recorder.

The beginning of the end for VCR's!
