Hi Guys
I'm capturing my original Star Wars LD to be authored to DVD; yes I know tonnes are doing it, but I want the satisfaction of doing it myself and learning new things.
I've already done ESB through my DV cam using composite video and RCA cables for audio.
I found out a guy at my work has an LD player with S-Video out and optical out. So, I assume that if I redid ESB the picture capture should(???) be better and I would assume an optical capture of the audio would be superior? Are those assumptions correct?
If so, what are my options to capture it this way? My DV cam has S-Video in, but no means of getting optical audio input. Would I have to capture video and audio separately and then synch them up? I use Premiere by the way. Or is there a different app that would allow me to capture them simultaneously?
Thanks for your help!

Well optical output will only produce PCM audio or dts, which I think Star Wars only has PCM. So you could capture the audio via the regular RCA cables. As for S-Video capture, I've heard that alot of LD players don't have good comb filters and quality could suffer. If your friend has a good LD player with a 3-line comb filter, then the quality will be better.
As for capturing the audio via optical, your only bet is to connect it to a PC with optical in, but then you throw in the chance that the video will become out of sync when you multiplex the audio and video, which can be done easily in TMPG.

Hi
Thanks for the input.
Yep, that's what I figured that I'd have to try and sync up the sound and video in the end. Guess not truly worth the effort. I've done ESB already and the sound is quite decent, obviously not as good as mastered/pro disc I suppose, but it'll do.
I've also read similar items regarding LD players and s-video and that going s-video doesn't yield much, because, supposedly, the video was mastered onto LD in a composite manner to begin with. Something to that effect, I might have described it a bit inaccurately technically speaking. So don't quote me
