  2. I get the same problem with my pioneer 106d, when im writing a cd, sometimes reading....all my cpu power is used up. Im still unable to resolve the problem. Sometimes if i change the drive onto a different port it fixes the problem for a short while but then it happens again.

  4. I think mine is a 230w....i cant see that being a problem tho because i can temporarily fix the problem by moving the port of which the drive is on....this doesnt last long tho.

Make sure udma is enabled for your ide devices,if its in pio mode then computer usage will be too much.Look in control panel/system/hardware/device manager/ide/ata/atapi controllers and change it there,if that doesnt work then uninstall the affected ide drive and reboot.Computers nowadays with upgraded hardware need at least 300w good quality brand psu and higher,400w to be on the safe side.

CPU power and power supply wattage are only very loosely related, even with a 200W P/S, if it's actually functioning properly you should be able to run your burner without power problems.

Yep, powersupply can be the culprit. A P4 or Athlon should be running a true 350 Watt power supply (especially if you have multiple drives/optical devices). By true 350 watts, I mean steady state not peak. Anything under 300 watts is just asking for erratic operation (burning uses power, and if it's erratic when burning, you get the idea).

Power supply problems are very common, jsut not widely diagnosed. Cheap cases/power supplies are not worth the $40 you 'saved'.

It can also be an IRQ conflict. However, if you dont' have the problem while ripping, but do have it while burning it's probably not an IRQ conflict.

  9. Get a NEW ide cable that will solve your problems. Or unplug (and unpower) as many devices as possible then try using your dvd burner.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
