  1. Hi,
New to this forum, even though I have browsed this site a few times. I have a couple of questions that may seem redundant but I am looking for personal experience as advice. DVD is in three formats + - and RAM, Stand alone DVD players are - or + and what is the sense of having a tri format DVD burner if almost no one uses RAM Discs? Next thing would be, if you use a caputure type video card (such as an ATI with vid input) and your sound in on your sound card, does this ever have sync probs from taking from vid tapes (home movies for a more permanant storage solution) and I do have editing software (such as virtual dub) for these types of probs, just curious as to what kind of problems I can expect.
    Thanks

I can only address the capture question. I own an ATI All-In-Wonder card and I have never experienced sync problems. Although Virtualdub is a great tool for simple AVI editing, I capture to mpeg-2 so I only use VDub when convering to Divx/Xvid. Most of the capturing I do is for backing up my favorite TV shows so I find myself using Womble Mpeg VCR more than anything, along with software encoders like TMPGEnc and Main Concept Mpeg Encoder. When I require more sophisticated editing(titles and transitions) I'll use either Ulead Video Studio or Honestech Video Editor.

  3. I also have TMPGEnc and do like this, I wasn't aware that I could do captures with this (and probably should look at it closer then) Thanks for your input!

I didn't mean to mislead you but TMPGEnc can't be used for capturing. I merely use it to re-encode the captures I make with the included ATI software, which I think is quite good by the way. Sorry for the confusion.

You're welcome. Good luck with your future captures. If you should get stuck, there's no better place than this forum to ask for help.
