    Hi,

    I have converted an AVI to MPEG 2 using TMPGE and setting the values of bitrate to:

    2-Pass VBR
    Average bitrate 900
    Maximum bitrate 2650
    Minimum bitrate 350
    Enable padding not to be lower than bitrate: disactivated
    P = 0
    B = 20

    The movie has a fps of 23.976and the conversion in PAL.
    The movie is 101 minutes long.

    The quality that came out is not acceptable, is it because the average bitrate is too low? This is the value I got from the calculator.
    In fact, the dimension of the file surprised me because it is 825 Mb and therefore I could burn it on a sincle CD (99 min).
    But I prefer to have 2 CDs and the higher quality of SVCD.

    Can you help?

    Thank you!

    Set the bitrate calculator to use 2 cd`s,the bitrate will be around 2000kbps and you`ll get much better picture quality.Also read about the ntsc-pal convert guide in the how to convert to the left for proper conversion.

    Johns0,

    Thanks for your reply.
    Regarding the convertion, once you select PAL as a system, doesn't it convert automatically to 25 fps?
    This is what it is shown on the bottom left side of the main scrren of TMPGE once the settings are made, in fact, it is working fine and also when I did add the audio in mp2 format in simple multiplex it was perfectly syncronized.

    I read it is not a good idea to convert the file previously, also because the DVD Player does that much better.

    Am I missing something??

    Thanks

    It does convert to pal but if you dont do the things i suggested then the playback will be jerky.If you find the playback acceptable the way you done then you dont need to bother with the proper procedure.
