  1. Every time i try to merge and cut these two mpegs i get an incompatibility error...im pretty sure that i know the reason for this but i dont know how to fix it...i checked both of the mpegs to see the exact details of their make up and there were a few things i noticed...the scan type of the problem mpeg is zig zag, where as the other mpeg which seems to work fine is alternative...the other difference is that the frame type of the problem mpeg is progressive where as the other mpeg is interlaced.

I guess my question then is if this is the problem how do i go about changing the problem mpeg so that it is compatible with the non problem mpeg and so that they have the same qualities so that i can merge and cut with tmpg enc?

    thanks chris

Why do you need to merge the files together?

Its easier to just add the mpgs into the same track without merging,i do that with mpgs all the time, saves on sync problems and the clips plays as one file anyways after.

Tmpgenc dvd author, when you do encode the mpgs make them 352x480 and set the gop to 18 frames maximum.
