  1. I am thinking of encoding my SVCDs interlaced, but I will be sharing these encodes with some friends, so I would like to know how compatible interlaced video is with different DVD players.

For example, do Apex players handle interlaced SVCD? I have heard that Pioneer does.

    Thanks!

All SVCD players should be able to handle interlaced materal. I have only heard of one issue, but I believe that was with phillips would sometime get the wrong field order, but that could be corrected by pausing and playing untill it corrected itself.

  3. Is this right? I have heard from others that there are issues, and not just with a handful of players. My impression was that it was pretty much split.

    Can anyone confirm this?

I would say that 99% of interlacing issues on SVCD's are ENCODING realted NOT PLAYER related.

Moving from progressive media like DVD or AVI to interlaced encoding from TV or DV takes an understanding of fields and interlacing. Not having this understanding leads to frustration and ignorance about interlaced problems.
