Help - Menu 'Pause' ?

Hi,

I have made many menu's with SVCD2DVD, but non with the size of text I need to add to this current one I have, hence, never coming across this problem before. I have a paragraph of text embedded into the jpeg I'm using, and when ( I presume ) the 120 frames have ran, it seems that my ( and others I have tried ) DVD standalone will 'pause' the menu to keep it on screen.
Now, when this pause happens, the menu text seems to shift slightly, or at least becomes blurred. I'm guessing the short answer to this is to increase the text font on the jpeg ( I'm NOT refering to button font here ), but that would be detrimental to what I want. Would an increase of frames work better? Is this possible in any way? I have tried other menu authoring applications, but I want to stick with SVCD2DVD if at all possible. Many others place restrictions on what you can do, or insist you use certain templates.

Anyway, any help appreciated.

Well, if Chrissyboy don't know, I guess no one does.

Well increasing the number of frames would only delay the "pause". 120 frames is about 4 seconds. so you would need to think about the duration that would be acceptable.....

Anyway, here is something you can try:

you can change the value (in your registry) of:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Badgersoft\DVD MenuMaker\EncodeSize


to a custom value. The # is the number of frames. remember that in PAL you have 25 frames per second and in NTSC you have 29.997 frames per second.... so you can work out your required frames for a given duration.

Also if your duration is over 5 seconds then the menu will loop. This also may get you to where you need to be.

(the above value will only be used by DVDMM if it can encode in a certain way. Some OS's can't so it encodes another way and this value will not be used. If this is the case i will make a code change so that it does....)

I suspect this Blur effect is an attribute of your player (does this happen on the PC?). If this is the case i too would be interested to see what another menu program would do differently.....

Thanks a million mate, that reg setting worked a treat. Now, I set DVDMM to enocde enough frames for a minute ( I was experimenting with DVDRW, so I wasn't worried that may be too much ) and the outcome is just what I want. I have none of the 'loop' you mention, more like a menu that runs for a minute before pausing.

However, this first run proved to be the final cut, coupled with increasing the font of the text in my background JPG a couple of points, I got the desired results. And just in time too! This will be a promo DVD and I'm approaching a deadline.

As for the standalone's behaviour - I tested the original cut on 3 different standalones, and the blurring occured with the pausing on every machine. In WinDVD it's wasn't noticable at all. In PowerDVD, you could just notice it.

I'd be happy to upload the menu with a small vob if you'd like to have a play with it?
I'd be interested to know the results.

For now anyway, I'm happy again.

And I get to still use SVCD2DVD.
