  1. I have made 2 files of a DVD I wann 2 back up. One being a complete image of the disc, bein 7.3GB and the other one bein the 7.3GB disc bein split in to 2 parts, so it can fit on 2 blank DVD discs.

So if I use DVD Shrink on the 7.3GB image (2 reduce size) will it lose alot of the quality? Does it compress the file or remove unwanted stuff?

If it does lose significant quality, I would prefer 2 use 2 DVD's and split it. How do i create an 'Insert Cd 2' on the 2 discs, so dat it knows the other part of the film is on the 2nd DVD?

I searched the forums, but i would prefer some advice.

  2. I just backed up The Family Guy season 1 and 2 DVD's. They all seem to be dual layer discs, and I put them all on 1 DVD each (4 total). The percent on the lowest one I believe was around 62%... now I've read on here that people won't dare go that low with the compression, but to be honest I cannot tell a difference as long as I use the deep analysis tool in dvdshrink.

Sorry I can't tell you how a 'real' movie comes out with the compression, I've only had to do the animated ones so far.

  4. To me it all depends.. On something deep and a good movie experience, I'd probably do movie only if the compression wasn't that high.

But for TV shows, honestly, I've gone down to 55-60% and it doesn't bother me. Usually I'm in a free/relaxed mindset (and drinking) when I watch some shows so I honestly don't care.

And part of it is relative to what you're used to. 700MB divx movies never bothered me before, so a movie transcoded down to 4.3 gigs surely doesn't affect me much at all.

My experience with DVDShrink has been a good one - you can usually strip out unwanted audio streams to get your compression ratios better. It is impossible for me to tell the difference on my 68cm TV. Large rear projection units and/or projectors have shown up slight imperfections however. It depends on your own definition of acceptable quality and also what device you will be viewing them on.
    If in doubt, Google it.
