Burning help with a converted file

I have an AVI file which I have converted to Mpeg using HT AVI to DVD. I have Nero 5 dvd burning software but am unsure how to burn to be able to play it in a normal DVD player.

If I choose burn image and burn DVD it burns but my DVD player wont recognise the disk. Am I doing something stupid???
