  2. Arik etc,

I have the exact same problem, not all DVDs but quite a few. How many others out there have this problem?

    What's the solution?

    Thanks,

  3. Count me in! I got the same problem!

I can't copy most DVDs. Some can, quite a lot can't. Some DVDs play for a while and then suddenly the entire computer freezes. Can't copy all data out from DVDs I burnt using Nero. Can't copy unprotected data DVDs, also burnt using Nero.

All the situations above end in computer freezing up completely requiring a hard reset.

The burner still burns without a hitch.

I don't think it is the drive but something in the OS. I took my old DVD reader out and plugged in back onto IDE2 in place of Lite-On cdburner, LG still connected. Tried the same things. Results are the same. Got me stumped.

I suspect the drive is over sensitive of bad media or small errors on disc.

    Any ideas please share!! Running XPPROSP1, 2.4 P4, 1024ram, 400WPSU.

  4. Hye All!
I Had all the problem you have (And I think I still have it) but,
I did the firmware upgrade from http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GSA4081B
and i think that it makes better.
Rihjt now, after doing the firmware upgrade, I don't have any region (I think it's called RPC1 free).
BYW The upgrade from this site (A101 version) works fine and didn't made any problems to my GSA-4081B.
After I did the upgrade I entered a movie (Original) and tried to open it or copy it and i didn't do anything... again my computer stucked!
So... I ejected the movie and entered it again few time and than it work perfect...
I don't know hot to explain this problem, maybe it's because the Original movie media is soo poor that GSA-4081B can't read it perfectly.
What do you say about this...?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  5. How did you apply the firmware upgrade? It says to do it from a pure DOS environment not from a DOS window in XP. How do you do this?

    Thanks,

    Goobs

PS I seriously think LG has a problem with sensitivity to scratches etc. But I'll see what happens when I apply the firmware, it's really wierd that you eventually got a 'non-readable' disc to work!!

  6. Gooberoo,

You need to have a bootable floppy with DOS. You have to boot from it and apply the update in the command line. If you run XP you need DOSflopmaker.zip to make a DOS bootable disk. I can't seem to remember where you download the file. I'll email it to ya if you want.

That said. The update has made zero difference. I think all it does is remove region lock so you can play DVDs from any region.
