Anyone have any suggestions on how to get a 90 minute movie to a DVD. I caanot seem to fit and hour and a half on a DVD disk. Is there anything I can do? I have tried several times with different programs. Any suggestions on how to do this?

  2. 90 minutes on one DVD? That shouldn't be tough at all... What are you using to encode/author?

You'll have to be a bit more specific on your methods. Are you capturing straight to Mpeg2, or .AVI??

Have you already authoured your DVD, and found it oversized??

I have not found a program I really like but I have used Movies on CD and DVD 2004. It is converted to mpeg format and I always find the file to big. I am very new to this and I do not know how to get a smaller file. It has really been a pain but I will keep trying to get this. I know it is not hard to do but trying to get a movie to fit on a DVD has been a difficult task. What program should I be using?

I highly recommend utilizing TMPGEnc Plus. I typically edit my videos first, then I use TMPGenc to encode the resulting movie to whatever size I want. This compresses the file, but at 90 minutes you will be hard pressed to tell the difference in my opinion. While some tout it as a way to convert AVI to MPEG2, it will re-encode MPEG2 files as well.

You can search this site for more information. There are some excellent guides and resources here. You will need the Plus version ($48) to encode MPEG2, but you can try it on a trial basis for 15 days (free) I believe.

  6. 90 mins on one DVD, this would be a piece of cake for neoDVD Plus software. It can capture and convert to DVD format in near real time.
I use neoDVD Plus a lot for video <= 90 mins.

  7. You can get more out if it if you use mpeg audio or AC3. Regular PCM audio takes up a huge amunt of space. By using mpeg or AC3, you should be able to get about 6Mbps video bitrate, and 192 audio (you can use a program called BeSweet to convert to mpg or AC3). Use the Bitrate Calculator in the tools section to help you determine your bitrate.

    neoDVD sucks ass

Look into TMPGEnc Plus or CINEMA CRAFT ENCODER aka CCE BASIC

For the newbie TMPGEnc Plus is easier to use

My only problem with this great program is that whenever I record a 90 minute movie, it breaks it up into 17 minutes .VOB files. Anyone got any solutions to this? Is there a program that combines .VOB files...?

    Thanks folks!

There must be a setting in Neo to stop that. I know that when I create DVD files to my hard drive with NeoDVD Plus I get four 1GB files for a 100 minute of so movie file.

  14. Well, neoDVD Plus is a super fast AVI to MPEG-2/VOB converter (1X on my machine). Quality is decent for video <= 90mins long (that fit one DVD-R in BEST quality mode). And it generates VOB files with AC3 audio if you chose so. For some who does not like it, too bad. For video > 90mins, I got to use TMPGenc, quality is also great, but it takes 5X to convert on my PC.
It's normal for DVD authoring program to generate multiple VOB files for one title. neoDVD is no different, I normally end up with 5 VOBs per video.
