  1. Maybe I should know this, but is there software that allows the capture of video off of a DVD-R that was recorded on a stand alone recorder???
    Thank you.

  2. A video on a DVD-R is just a DVD-5.
You can use DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper to get it out.
Or read the quides about DVD-5 to DVD-R.

  3. Okay, here is what I want to be able to do...hopefully someone can help. I've been recording home videos to a DVD recorder. It is a hellofalot faster than going through my pc. I want to archive the tapes as they were recorded, so that's what I'm doing. NOW, I want to take bits and pieces of these home DVDs and author them into nice edited DVDs with menus and chapters, etc. How do I get the vob files into mpg2 or even avi files to do that? I know I can use TMPGenc, but the audio doesn't work. There should be a way to do this...right??? or am I out of luck??? Thank you again for any words of advice.

  5. What is your suggestion? I know I can import video off of the DVD using Ulead Movie Factory, but because the audio is AC-3 it doesn't capture audio.
    Thanks for the reply?

  6. It's all digital. Just rip the DVD to your HD with DVD Decrypter. Then you can either demux the VOBs to m2v/ac3, reauthor from the VOB files, or convert them and re-author.

One of the 'easiest' ways to do this is rip everything you want. Run DVD Shrink and use the start/stop to generate a new VTS with only the part you want (set no compression, you can do this with IFOEdit to but it's not as user friendly). Repeat as necessary.

DVD Lab can author from VOB files, but can only have one VTS so you have to join all the VOB files together. Then generate a menu(s) as desired.

There are a lot of ways to do this, this is the 'freeware' way (DVD Lab 30day trail). I personally de-mux then re-author w/ DVD Maestro.

  7. Thanks for the info. I wish things were a little less complicated. So many programs needed to do what would seem like an easy fix. Thank you again. I'll be busy!

  8. I'm still not getting how I take care of the audio. The DVD is in AC-3 format, and I need wav or something that authoring programs like Movie Factory can handle. Is ther anything that can take care of the mpg2 and the audio at the same time to avoid (hopefully) sync problems? Thanks.
