  3. Hi,

The tool DTS2WAV is nothing but a preparer for a DTS decoding engine.

I did a succesfull rip and decoding of the DTS stream on the latest U2 concert. Now, I am burning it to CD-R to listen to it in my car. See

Good luck, it can be done...

he is using vobrator to demux the dts stream from the data stream - then using hypercube transcoder to convert the dts file into 6 mono wav files ..

    it works -- i tried it --

first easy way ive seen to convert dts (dvd type or wav dts - NOT cinema dts) to wav or mpg (6ch) audio ...

  9. If HyperCube doesn't recognize the dts file, make sure it IS a dts file. I mean, maybe it is a dtswav file or a bad dts file. OR it is a ac3 file and it is simply renamed to dts.

You can fix bad dts files with DTSparser ("rebuild stream" enabled) or something like wav2dts.ax. Both of them can be obtained from the site of HyperCube.

In the beginning I had a problem with the conversion because HyperCube didn't put the "InterVideo Audio Decoder" in the graph list but a Sonic audio decoder. After deinstalling Sonic and his products everythiong went well.

I did only the conversion for "real" dts files and not files which are converted to a PCM like dts format (such as wavdts or dtswav).

    Happy transcoding!

  10. HHmmm.

Why dont you rip the audio from the dvd that ISNT DTS ?. I think all DTS DVDS have to carry AT LEAST a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack, why dont you rip this ?. I dont think there is any benfit in converting a DTS to WAV as opposed to AC3 to WAV.

Yopu mention the U2 DVD, is it Live at slane castle ? My version has the audio in DTS 5.1, DD 5.1 and DD 2.0 i seem to remember.

  11. Yep, the DVD of U2 has it all three: stereo, dolby digital and dts.

    Here are two things:
    1) the challenge to transcode a dts stream since this is not a commodity (and not legal, I think)
    2) trying to achieve better sound through the dts format (dts is better than ac3). The stereo track on the dvd is ok, but there is maybe room for enhancement. I played for "audio engineer" by remixing the 6 mono tracks into stereo. Did some tricky things in the panning of the channels and pronounced the subwoofer channel a bit more. Afterwards, I would have compressed the voice of Bono to achieve even better singing (he sounds like drunk sometimes). I did not try this in my car yet.

So, for me it is also a sort of a hobby.

  13. DTS is better than DD but once its de-compressed I dont know wether there is any difference between the two in terms of quality.

think of converting a 96khz mp3 and a 196khz mp3 ... you can convert both to wave - but the 196 is going to sound better ..
