Over the past few months I have been looking at downloading episodes of
Star Trek. Most the downloads that I have seen are in WMV/ASF8. Not nice
to convert to MPEG ½
This week I saw a download of the new Enterprise series episodes. To my
joy it was in DIVX format. However my joy was short lived when I tried to
convert it to VCD with TMPGE only to discover that there was no sound on
the finished files. The file plays fine in media player etc. I loaded
this file in to MSPRO6 to have a look but the audio line was flat.. No
audio. The audio properties shows Mpeg 3 44100 khz 140Kbits. When I
played it in MSPRO I got a GPF
When I load the file into Virtual Dub3 it plays fine. When I save the file as an AVI no audio. When I save the audio as a wave file it is a duration of 17.16 minutes compared to the DIVX file of 43.04 minutes.
In the end I played the file with Vdub and recorded the sound track to a wave file and am currently encoding it again with TMPGE with sound..
Is this file encrypted?? Normal DIVX files that I have come across convert fine. If so I may think twice before down loading any more of these files.. DIVX will just end up as another files system to be avoided.
